Conexión Américas was founded in 2002 to address some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities created by recent demographic changes in our region as an increasing number of Latino families come to Tennessee in search for a better quality of life.
About our Name
‘Conexión’ (pronounced conn-ex-ee-on) is the Spanish word for ‘connection’.
Our organization’s name underlines our commitment to supporting Latino families by connecting them with information, local resources, support networks and opportunities for advancement in their adopted home.
The plural noun ‘Américas’ literally alludes to North America, South America, Central America and The Caribbean as geographic units that make up the American Continent. Figuratively, in our case, ‘Américas’ refers to the convergence of people from all these regions in our own Middle Tennessee neighborhoods.
Our name speaks to our desire to connect and build bridges between the Latino and the native-born communities.
