Adult Education Program Manager

Vanderbilt brought Leia to Tennessee from Connecticut, and the draw of the South was too strong for her to stay away for long. After graduating in 2010 with degrees in Spanish and Biology, she headed north to Boston to use her skills as a tutor and bilingual office manager at a charter school for non-traditional learners.

She returned to Nashville in 2014 to join Conexión Américas as our Adult Education Program Manager, where she coordinates the English as a Second Language program. Through building relationships with teachers and program participants, she helps create a supportive and challenging environment for individuals to build on their language skills.

Leia continues to expand her responsibilities by launching Aprendiendo Juntos, a class that combines parent engagement skills with ESL instruction, and working with our Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) collaborative partners, TIRRC and JFON, to help Tennesseans secure protection from deportation and pursue work and educational opportunities.

Outside of work, you can find her in the kitchen baking cookies or crafting a meal to share with friends. One day she hopes that her dishes will rival those of our Mesa Komal chefs!
