Pre-K Family Engagement Coordinator

Tanya started working for Conexión Américas as the receptionist covering the front desk and welcoming people to Casa Azafrán. She was eager to take on new challenges and moved to join our Parents as Partners (Padres Comprometidos) team as the Pre-K Coordinator, working with parents in Metro Nashville Public Schools Pre-K Centers. She helps parents understand the school system, help their children get a good start, prepare for kindergarten and succeed in school.

Tanya is very outgoing, loves to learn new things every day and meet new people.

Born in Veracruz, Mexico, Tanya came to the United States when she was nine years and has been living in Nashville for about thirteen years now. As a recipient of deferred action (DACA) she was the first person in her family to graduate from high school. Her next goal is to also become the first person in her family to graduate from college and is currently finishing her degree in Management and Human Relations at Trevecca University.

She loves spending her free time with her family and taking pictures of her little son, but she has to take them secretly, because her son gets mad as soon as he notices the camera. Tanya also enjoys any kind of dancing, decorating her house and painting landscapes. Her favorite landscape to paint is a beautiful mountain in her home country called “Pico de Orizaba.”
