Nashville is a beautiful international mix of cultures, colors, languages and customs, and Conexión Américas is thrilled to showcase it all in a new photo competition titled “Capture the Spirit of International Nashville.”

Conexión Américas seeks to discover and feature your international Nashville — from the annual Kurdish picnic, to the Quinceañera fiesta, to the Celebrate Nashville Cultural Event to el Día de los Muertos festivities.

Plus, we want to see the simple and intimate everyday moments of immigrant and international residents at work, worship, play and rest, and present the visual diversity of everything from a favorite food truck to a costume or place of business.

Why? We’re Celebrating a Decade!

Conexión Américas this year is celebrating its 10th anniversary of empowering Latino families in Tennessee, and we have seen huge demographic changes during a decade of work. We have seen great successes by so many, and also great challenges overcome.

Through this photographic collection of international Nashville we want to capture and celebrate the impact immigrants from all over the world have made in the community. (Fast facts: 1 in every 6 Nashvillians is  foreign-born and 10% of the population is Hispanic.)

Your Photos on Display

The winning photographs, and a collection of selected entries, will be the first art exhibit at the Casa Azafrán Community Center, Conexión Américas new offices.

Casa Azafrán, the gateway to Nashville’s most international district, is a $5 million nonprofit collaborative with offices for health services, counseling, education, plus a commercial community kitchen, meeting, event, culture and art spaces. Located at 2195 Nolensville Pike, Casa Azafrán is scheduled to open in the Fall 2012.

The photographs and artist bios also will be displayed in a 2013 exhibit at the Nashville International Airport and available for traveling exhibits to partner organizations in Middle Tennessee.

THE CONEXIÓN AMÉRICAS “CAPTURE THE SPIRIT OF INTERNATIONAL NASHVILLE” COMPETITION (“COMPETITION”) IS OFFERED BY CONEXIÓN AMÉRICAS (‘SPONSOR”).   THE COMPETITION IS LIMITED TO PARTICIPANTS 18 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER IN THE 50 UNITED STATES AND DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA (“U.S.”).  NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO PARTICIPATE.  COMPETITION BEGINS On MAY 30, 2012 AT 12:01 AM CENTRAL TIME.  ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY JUNE 30, 2012 AT 11:59 PM CENTRAL TIME AFTER WHICH TIME THE COMPETITION ENTRY PERIOD WILL CLOSE.  WINNER WILL BE SELECTED BY A PANEL OF JUDGES SELECTED BY SPONSOR.  LIMIT THREE ENTRIES PER PERSON.  ALL ENTRIES BECOME THE PROPERTY OF SPONSOR.

ELIGIBILITY. Drawing is open to residents of the 50 United States and District of Columbia (“U.S.”) who are 18 years of age or older. LOCAL RESTRICTIONS MAY APPLY.  COMPETITION IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.

ENTRY. Entry in the competition is available online only through the link provided at the web site  www.Facebook.com/ConexionAmericas. To enter, access the website during the Competition Entry Period and follow directions for submission of entries.  Entries must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM Central time June 30, 2012. Limit of three entries per person.
