The next time you’re between the state fairgrounds and I-440, look toward the horizon and you’ll glimpse one of the most beautiful landmarks in Nashville’s International District: The mosaic mural called “Migration.”

With every hue in the rainbow, it splashes color and majesty onto the South Nashville skyline.

On May 22, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Jairo Prado will share the story of how the award-winning mosaic was created and explain the process that included more than 300 community members.  A reception will follow the artist’s talk.

With a photo-documentary digital exhibit, guests will view “the making of Migration” and visualize how piles of colorful tiles became the masterpiece that speaks of movement, connection and beauty.

The photo-documentary video will be featured alongside a selection of new personal works created by the artist.

Also being presented on the same evening is an exhibit by Zoilita Mojica, a 93-year-old artist from Colombia who has resided in Nashville for the past 17 years.

Her show is entitled “Like Catching a Star” and it is the visual representation of the joy she experienced when she became an American citizen in December, 2013.  Even now, Zoilita continues to paint everyday, reflecting her extraordinary energy, her inner joy, profound spirituality, and her willingness to embrace life. “Para mi la pintura representa la vida: las emociones, las experiencias, los recuerdos…todo.” (“For me, painting represents life: the emotions, the experiences, the memories…everything.”)
