Every day our team continues to work on the front lines, making sure the Latino community has access to information about COVID-19, tornado relief and basic necessities like food, education resources, unemployment support, and more. This has been an extraordinarily difficult time for the people we serve—many in the hospitality, restaurant, and other service industries hit hard by the economic impacts of this crisis—and our own staff familia.

Just since March 11th, we have seen an increased need for services relating to food security, economic instability, and the educational inequities created and exacerbated by the digital divide.
Although our home at Casa Azafrán is temporarily closed, we remain steadfast in providing the services and support to immigrant Tennesseans. Here’s a quick update of our work:

  • Real-time Spanish-language COVID-19 updates and health information on our website, along with multiple media interviews, to reach the community with best practices to stay healthy and where to find economic relief and resources.
  • Direct economic assistance to families in Davidson County, using funds from United Way’s COVID-19 Response Fund. Read more in the Tennessean.
  • 150 boxes of fresh produce to families in partnership with Fresh Point Nashville and Second Harvest of Middle Tennessee in a drive-thru at Casa Azafrán.
  • Spanish Q&A health video in coordination with the Metro Nashville Public Health Department to answer community questions about COVID-19.

  • One-on-one calls, texts and video conferences with over 1,157 program participants to connect them with health information, food, remote education, and economic resources.

Now more than ever, we need your continued support, especially as we move our annual fundraiser, Cafecito, to an online gathering on April 24th. We hope you will reserve your “seat at the table” for our online Cafecito. RSVP here and join us as a virtual table host to ensure we can continue to serve the community at this critical time.

Your contribution will not only help our team meet immediate needs, but will also help us sustain our organization that every day for the last 18 years has been building a welcoming community and creating opportunities where Latino families can belong, contribute, and succeed.

Gracias,

Juliana Ospina Cano
