Conexión Américas seeks qualified candidates for the position of Workforce Development Manager. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills in English and Spanish and significant experience in working with Latino populations. The candidate will also demonstrate an understanding of challenges relating to employment and post-secondary credentialing in low-income communities, specifically in the Latino immigrant community. Experience with career coaching, human resources, program development or case management preferred. The successful candidate must be highly organized, compassionate, a capable group presenter and facilitator, and adaptable to working with people of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. This position works primarily in Spanish, native level fluency is required. Please note that part of the interview will be conducted in Spanish.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

This is a permanent, full-time staff position that reports to the Associate Director of Economic Prosperity. 

The Workforce Development Manager will be responsible for launching and supporting the organization’s workforce development initiative, Progresando, which aims to connect Latinx adults to workforce skills and job opportunities that meet their unique needs and that align with in-demand career fields in the Middle Tennessee area. The program will serve Latinx, immigrant, or immigrant-origin adults, ages 18+, who are unemployed, underemployed, or who are seeking a postsecondary career pathway. Primary role responsibilities will include creating, promoting, and implementing a series of Spanish-language career readiness workshops, providing one-on-one career coaching, and hosting quarterly job fairs. This role will also be responsible for creating and implementing an intensive Job Training Program for recent high school graduates and developing relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and employers who will serve as key collaborators for job-placement, credentialing, upskilling, and training for program participants. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the implementation of the Workforce Development program, including case management, workshops, employer recruitment & partnerships, and training program 
  • Provide one-on-one individual coaching for community members regarding career exploration, job applications, and employment 
  • Develop and implement effective coaching strategies to help clients overcome employment-related challenges
  • Develop effective job coaching and employment plans to measure and track client process
  • Provide information on suitable career paths and employment options based on clients' skills, qualifications, interests, and experience.
  • Review clients' resumes, cover letter, or application materials
  • Conduct mock interviews with clients and offer interview prep advice.
  • Create and implement a series of Spanish-language career readiness workshops covering essential aspects of the job application process (job search, resume & cover letters, LinkedIn, interviewing, soft skills, etc). 
  • Provide employment and educational resources and guidance to community members looking to change careers and/or update job seeking skills.
  • Monitor and evaluate progress of clients, maintain documentation of meetings, process, and milestones 
  • Connect clients with other Conexión Américas programs that 
  • Identify and build partnerships with area employers and employment related organizations
  • Identify and build partnerships with Nashville State, TCAT, and other relevant organizations that will assists clients in credentialing or upskilling 
  • Plan and conduct outreach to connect with employers and community members
  • Plan and implement quarterly job fairs, including logistics and recruitment of employers and applicants
  • Develop and implement an annual Summer Job Training Program for recent high school graduates, including logistics, content, recruitment, and program evaluation
  • Manage the Training Program stipends and communicates with participants for disbursement of funds
  • Partner with community organizations and employers to ensure that community members have access to necessary resources and support for employment
  • Continually grow and maintain knowledge of workforce trends and barriers for immigrant populations 
  • Communicate clients’ needs to a wide range of stakeholders including employers, credentialing institutions, and workforce related organizations
  • Conducts outcome tracking to measure and report success of the program
  • Maintains and updates organizational databases with accurate student data
  • Tracks client salary, job offers, job placement,  and workplace retention 
  • Assists with grant reporting for the Workforce Development Program.
  • Manages, adapts, and updates the program as needed to fit the needs of the community 

General Organization Support Duties:

  • Speaks or makes presentations on behalf of Conexión Américas at events and conferences
  • Communicates in a positive and effective manner Conexión Américas’ mission and programs
  • Assists with fairs and outreach events on behalf of Conexión Américas to talk about all of Conexión Américas’ programs
  • Attends and provides support as needed to organizational events and fundraisers

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to those listed above. As with every other job at Conexión Américas, every person in the organization will assist in any way necessary to respond to new demands and to assure a cooperative environment.

Qualifications (Education and Experience):

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; Master’s degree preferred 
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English required, bilingualism in Spanish or Arabic and biculturalism required 
  • Flexibility, creativity, initiative and ability to work as a team member 
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of stakeholders 
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and strict timelines 
  • Ability and willingness to work some evenings and weekends 
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Office and database management 
  • Demonstrated appreciation for Latino culture and families, as well as other immigrant and refugee groups Experience managing volunteers/interns preferred 
  • Experience working with young people and in public schools preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of nonprofit organizations’ operations preferred 

Salary and Benefits

  • The salary ranges from $48,000 to $50,000, commensurate with experience and education. 
  • Medical and Dental insurance
  • PTO Benefits: 18 vacation/personal days and 12 sick days for all full-time employees
  • Holidays – 10 paid holidays for all full-time employees
  • Flexible 9-5 pm schedule, with occasional evenings or Saturdays as needed 
  • Ongoing training and development
