Conexión Américas is proud of our partnership with the Legal Aid Society and the Nashville Hispanic Bar Association for the Eviction Right to Counsel program. This program is the first of its kind, providing legal counsel against eviction in various languages for individuals and families in Tennessee, including the Latinx community and immigrants. A recent independent evaluation conducted by an advisory and consulting firm has shown compelling results: a substantial $3.4 million in savings for Davidson County residents, showing the program’s substantial success and profound societal impact.

Through this program, 1,010 clients facing eviction were assisted as of June 30, 2023, with ongoing cases continuing to benefit from ongoing support. Among those who received assistance, each client recorded an average financial impact of $10,900. Beyond these figures are families able to remain together in their homes, children remaining in their schools, and so much more.

Nearly half of the program’s clients reported children in their households. The initiative’s reach extended to individuals residing in public or subsidized housing, with over half of the clients falling into this demographic.

A pivotal factor in the program’s success comes from its accessibility. A help desk was positioned strategically at the courthouse, facilitating access for approximately 200 tenants per week, and ensuring timely assistance and guidance to those navigating the complexities of housing insecurity.

As Nashville continues to wrestle with housing challenges, the Eviction Right to Counsel program continues to advocate for the rights and stability of families within our community. Together, we hope to continue empowering families to remain in their homes and equipping them with knowledge about their rights and responsibilities while ensuring that landlords understand and adhere to laws safeguarding tenants.
