Conexión Américas Youth Civic Engagement Programming
As part of our Escalera College Access program, Civics for All is a comprehensive civic leadership experience designed to increase civic knowledge and engagement among students while fostering a strong sense of civic responsibility. Through six interactive sessions, participants explore the fundamental principles of democracy, equality and justice, the Latino Civil Rights Movement, civic engagement strategies, voting rights and youth participation, and media literacy and misinformation.
“Stand Tall and inspire all. Be confident— don’t be shy to stand up and inspire others.”
These were the words of Skylar, a 12th grader at Antioch High School, after attending Conexión Américas’ Civics for All. This workshop is one of Conexión Américas’ responses to this moment. Students learned to speak up, stand tall, and take action on the issues that matter most to them and their families. Skylar’s message captures the spirit we see every day in the families we serve: the courage to lead, the drive to grow, and the belief in the power of their voices.
“Everyone deserves the right to speak. Not just one single community. We can be the last generation to suffer- if you make that choice. Never stay quiet. Speak up for what’s right,” she shared. Young voices like Francia’s inspire us to action every single day.
These are the words of Francia, a first-generation student at John Overton High School. She learned how to vote, how our government works and why her voice matters. Francia left the session ready to take action and inspire others!
