Fifth Annual Young Latino Writers’ Essay Contest

As one of several activities to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, Conexión Américas is inviting young writers to participate in the fifth annual Young Latino Writers’ Essay Contest.

Young Latino writers should address the theme “My Hispanic Roots, My American Dream.”

Details

Latino children who live in Middle Tennessee and who are in high school (9th through 12th grade the 2011 to 2012 academic year) are eligible to enter the contest.

Literary Genre: Essay

Theme: ‘My Hispanic Roots, My American Dream’

Language: Essay can be written in English or Spanish

Requirements and Guidelines:

  • Essay should be original work by the young writer, up to 3 pages in length, typed in Times New Roman style font, 12 point font size, 1 inch margins on all sides, double-spaced throughout.
  • The essay must include: Name of essay writer, teacher sponsor, school, grade, name of parent/guardian, address, county of residence, telephone number and e-mail address if available.
  • Submitted essays become the property of Conexión Américas.
  • The winner of the essay contest and two runner-up finalists must attend the awards ceremony and reception, scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday, September 15th to receive the awards.

Prizes

The student who writes the winning essay will receive a personal computer. Two runner-up finalists also will be recognized. In addition, winning entries will be featured on Conexión Américas’ website, other publications and social media platforms.

Deadline

All entries must be received by Thursday May 31, 2012 at 5:00 p.m.
